Curt Fremont returns to the town where his brother, bank president Jim Fremont, was killed, in order to find the murderer. He suspects new bank president Lafe Kildare, who has been foreclosing on the land owned by Curt’s friend, Juan Conares, and his mother, and who has also been threatening Curt’s friend, Dad Moran, and his daughter, Mary Lou. Hoping to avoid bringing trouble to his friends, Curt pretends that he has no interest in revenge, even though Mary Lou, the woman he loves, refuses to have anything to do with such a coward. At night, however, he dresses up as the Mexican bandit “El Capitan,” rescues Juan from Kildare’s gang which has kidnapped him, and hides him in his room. Curt sneaks out with Juan, who disguises himself in woman’s clothes, in order to bring Señora Conares the money to pay her loan. They escape before Kildare can capture them. Curt steals Kildare’s account books, looking for proof that he killed Jim. The Sheriff sees through Curt’s disguise, but when he tries to arrest him, Curt hands him the books, advising him to look there for Jim’s killer. While the Sheriff investigates, Curt rides away to save the cattle that Kildare has taken from the Moran ranch to cover a bank debt. He turns Kildare over to the Sheriff and now that the truth is out, Mary Lou admits that she loves him. daring El Capitan as he looks for the killer. More on Wikipedia
