Actress Claire Norvelle sets off from New York on an ocean liner bound for Los Angeles in order to avoid the unwelcome attentions of Anthony Blair, the producer of her last show. To her dismay, Blair is also on board, having left town with thousands of dollars he embezzled from his company. During a poker game, Blair accuses the other men of cheating and they threaten him. After Claire returns one of Blair’s gifts, he refuses to let her leave his cabin and she strikes him with a candlestick. She is seen leaving his cabin, and the next day when Blair is found dead, she is accused of his murder. Bruce Allan, a newspaper reporter, who is also in love with Barbara, solves the mystery when he discovers that the murders were committed by Weldon, a ship’s officer who wanted the money that Blair had embezzled.
