The history of American popular music runs parallel with the history of a Russian Jewish immigrant family, with each male descendant possessing different musical abilities. The film is an incredible showcase for Bakshi’s particular style of animation, which incorporated hand-drawn still backgrounds with rotoscoped characters and utilization of other forms of media; from still photographs to live-action elements existing alongside all of the animation.
