After she loses her job as a taxi dancer, the daughter of a tugboat captain becomes involved with a young man who, unknown to her, is an indicted embezzler. Free on bail, the man, who plans to skip the country before his trial, ingratiates himself with the girl in hopes of enjoying his last two weeks in America in style. Although they have an understanding that their relationship is strictly “for laughs,” they fall deeply in love. Torn between his desire for freedom and his love for the girl, the embezzler finally confesses his crime to her and decides to stay and face his trial. Paroled after a year of imprisonment, the man, who has vowed to go straight, returns to the girl and takes a job as a deck hand on the wharf. More on Wikipedia or Mubi
