Political boss “Cash” Karger plans to own all of Casper County and forces Mary Middleton, editor of the local newspaper, to print editorials supporting his position, or else he will call in her $2,000 mortgage. When local rancher Collins complains about a cabin that has been built along his cattle trail, his former ranch hand, Tom Devlin, discovers that Mary is living in the cabin, and also learns of Karger’s coercion. Tom captures a rustler for whom Karger offers a $2,000 reward, and uses the money to pay Mary’s mortgage. Karger, however, murders Burke and burns the Middleton cabin in order to frame Tom. Mary and her mother are unharmed because Tom had previously moved them to the Collins ranch, where he was rehired. Tom is arrested for Burke’s murder and while he is in jail, Karger and his henchmen lay claim to the Collins ranch. Tom breaks out of jail with the help of his horse, Silver, and clears Karger and his men out of Casper County. With peace restored, Tom and Mary decide to marry. More on Wikipedia
