Sharpshooter Bill Temple arrives in Boomtown to fight evil-doer Jim Blane, who runs the town, by starting a newspaper, the Boomtown Bugle . Laura Martin, who runs a restaurant, informs Bill that Blane’s safe holds the deed to her father’s land. Meanwhile, Bill hires young Andy, Blane’s stepson, whom Blane abuses, as his printer. One day, Andy gets shot while trying to warn Bill against one of Blane’s accomplices, Buck, whom Bill eventually kills while defending himself. As a result of Andy’s wounding, his mother Ruby threatens to expose Blane’s plot to steal the Martin land claim by blowing up his safe. Blane shoots her before she can expose him, however, and calls her death an accident. Laura, who had hoped that the pen would prove “mightier than the sword,” is angry at Bill for using a gun and leaves for her father’s land in Pinto Canyon. Blane, expecting a $20,000 bank roll the next day, sets the safe so a half-turn will open it. Meanwhile, gold is found in Pinto Canyon, and Boomtown becomes a ghost town as a result. Blane’s two partners are about to blow up his safe when Bill arrives and forces Blane to open it. After the safe blows up, Bill chases the thieves, while Andy joins the mass exodus of townspeople to Pinto Canyon. There, Blane shoots his partners in the back. Bill arrives as Blane collects the money, and they fight in a mine shaft. Bill is knocked out, and Blane lights an explosive as Andy lowers himself into the shaft and pulls Bill out with his horse, leaving Blane to die. More on Wikipedia
