Between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century the events of Lieutenant Stefano San Mauro, a young man dedicated to duty and to the family and his friend the gagà Ambrogio Peretti, thirsty for adventures with actresses and a life of fun are intertwined. The lieutenant, after a series of misunderstandings and misunderstandings generated by his alleged acquaintance with a singer of variety, marries a fellow. The singer is actually linked to my dear friend Ambrogio. When the military remains a widower, he decides to devote himself exclusively to his son and his career. His friend instead continues a rather messy life, also trying the film industry. After many years the officer, now an elderly general, refuses his consent to his marriage to his son with the daughter of the famous singer. It is thanks to the intercession of the old and reckless friend, also elderly and at rest, that the two young men will be allowed to marry, all the more so when they become aware that the girl is his daughter.
