The Pecos Kid (1935)

Land robber James Grayson orders his men to steal the deed to the Pecos Rancho and Mine, granted to the Pecos family from the King of Spain, and the robbers shoot the Pecos brothers in the process. Before one of the brothers dies, he gives his pearl-handled pistol to his son, the Pecos Kid. Pecos returns years later to avenge the death of his father and uncle and reclaim the Pecos land. Faking a Spanish accent and hiding his face from his victims, Pecos steals a shipment of Grayson’s gold and then stampedes his cattle. One of the gang recognizes the pearl-handled gun, and the Pecos Kid is suspected. At the recommendation of Dr. Evans, an old friend of the family, Pecos gets a job in the land office posing as Donald Ellis from the East. Hoping to acquire land adjacent to his, Grayson steals an original survey map and replaces it with a forgery that says the land next to his is untitled. Pecos intervenes, however, and steals back the original map. When Grayson arrives at the land office to make his false claim to untitled land, Pecos denies his request. Pecos then gets friendly with Evans’ daughter Mary, who knows him only as Donald Ellis. When Grayson’s son Eric, drunk at a party, makes a pass at Mary and Pecos defends her, Eric pulls out his gun, and Pecos is forced to draw his pearl-handled revolver, revealing his true identity. He eludes Grayson’s men until they discover that the ranch cook Jose, in league with Pecos, has replaced their shipment of gold nuggets with rocks. In town, Grayson conducts a “necktie party” for Jose, and Pecos is forced to come out of hiding to save him. Pecos is caught as the marshal arrives to arrest Grayson for forging a land grant. Evans then tells Pecos that Mary is waiting for him, and Jose and he make plans to rebuild the ranch.
