Mary Gray and Dick Mercer, who have eloped to Atlantic City, take a hotel room previously occupied by thief “Red” Dugan, who sneaks stolen pearls into Mary’s handbag; a policeman appears, and in an ensuing gun battle both Red and the policeman are mortally wounded. Clara, a chambermaid in league with the thieves, liberates Mary for a price and forces her into reporting to Mr. Blaine as a cook. Meanwhile, her fiancé, along with Clara, is arraigned, but both are released. While Dick makes insinuations about Mary’s presence in Blaine’s home, Clara retrieves the pearls and Mary is abducted. Blaine rescues Mary from a fake hospital where the gang is holding her captive, and they escape just as the police appear to round up the gangsters. More on Wikipedia or Mubi
