Francesco Paolo Tosti, a composer of great quality, gives singing lessons to a noble Polish girl, Maria Vernowska, who is expelled from the country because she is suspected of espionage. Tosti was romantically linked to the singer Dionisia Tessèri and did not hesitate to leave her to bring her Maria to Italy, first her to Rome and then to Naples and again to Abruzzo with the painter Michetti.
