Divorce lawyer Gaylord Stanton, who leads a very active social life, has an affair with Grace Lanier, whose third husband is currently suing her for a divorce and has named Gaylord as corespondent. Annoyed at her flippant attitude, Gaylord proposes marriage to his secretary, Sylvia, under an arrangement whereby she is allowed to live wherever she likes. On her trip to Paris, suggested by Gaylord, she meets Durant, who persuades her to live in his villa near Paris and takes her to the beauty and modiste shops of the capital. Meanwhile, Gaylord tells Grace of his marriage, claiming his wife is an invalid confined to a sanitarium. Durant begs Sylvia to get a divorce and marry him; and disconcerted, she returns to Gaylord, whom she loves. Although she comes into conflict with Grace, Sylvia finds that he really does love her.
